SHELL ECO-MARATHON
Shell Eco Marathon competition is an International competition which is held annualy and sponsored by Shell Company. This competition is held around the world and has been held in Finland, France, Germany, Netherlands, Japan, Unites State, and Malaysia.
In this competition there are two categories, that are vehicle categories and energy categories. In the vehicles categories, the vehicles that used are Prototype and Urban Concept. While for the energy categories there are battery-electric, hydrogen fuel cell, and internal combustion engine that includes gasoline, ethanol, or diesel.
Furthermore, in this competition there is also one another competition again, that is Drivers’ World Championship or usually called as DWC where the vehicles compete in a race with the limited amount of fuel.
Yogyakarta State University already participated in this competition since year (?) and have made achivements. Becoming champion in Shell Eco Marathon Asia is one of the dreams passed down from generation to generation for the Garuda UNY Team to get a ticket to London and get a bonus study at the Ferrari Scuderia.
PHILOSOPHY OF THE COMPETITION
Shell Eco Marathon Asia
An annual competition that challenges student team from around the world to design, build, and drive, energy efficient vehicle. The competition aim to inspire young engineers to push the boundaries of fuel efficiency. In addition is educational project is a springboard to promote energy optimization and to spark debate about the future of mobility. The event is organized by Shell Global.
Drivers World Championship
This prestigious series sees teams, who have achieved the highest level of energy efficiency in their Regional competition, go head-to-head to prove they can maintain maximum energy efficiency with real-world speed. It includes three Regional Championships, held in Americas, Asia and Europe, and a global World Championship finale.
COMPETITION CATEGORY
Milleage Challenge Shell Eco-marathon
An innovation competition in creating and testing cars to achieve the longest mileage while using the most fuel efficiently as possible.
Qualification of DWC Shell Eco-marathon
Qualification to qualify for the DWC competition, after getting the best 3rd place in the Milleage Challenge
Off-Track Awards Shell Eco-marathon
Competition in creating problem management concepts, innovation and creativity, as well as planning activities as outlined in the report.
Milleage Challenge Drivers World Championship
Set number of times around the track, using the least amount of energy. Teams are awarded points based on their energy efficiency ranking.
Time Trial Drivers World Championship
Set track route using the least amount of energy in the fastest amount of time. Teams are awarded points based on their time trial ranking. Bonus points are given for Regional Championship performance and for their efforts to drive supporters for their team. When all points are combined, the top nine ranking teams compete for the World Championship Race.
Race Drivers World Championship
Teams are given a small amount of energy entirely based on their World Championship Mileage Challenge result. The first to cross the finish line becomes the Shell Eco-marathon World Champion.
